Michif Heritage Keepers is a Native led nonprofit organization that seeks to create an awareness of the Metis culture and place in Montana's history. The non profit group was established as a nonprofit organization in 2018.
Because the Montana Metis have no land based reservation or place to archive their historical documents or artifacts, it has been a challenge to share their heritage. The people have strived to  preserve their heritage through informal gatherings where their music, history, culture and language are shared.

Michif Heritage Keepers now formally hosts the annual Metis Festival gathering in Choteau, Montana.  The 2018 gathering attracted over 250 visitors including Montana Metis, their regional relatives and nonnative guests. Traditional fiddle music along with Metis jigging is presented during the festival.
